This spring, the Voda IQ team hit the road in California as sales representatives Jackson Beckley and Armando Piccinini attended two important fisheries and conservation events: the Salmonid Restoration Conference in Redding, California, and the International Fish Passage Conference in Davis, California.
The conferences brought together fisheries biologists, restoration professionals, hatchery managers, researchers, engineers, and conservation organizations from across North America and beyond to discuss the latest advancements in fish passage, salmonid restoration, monitoring technologies, and fisheries management.
For the Voda IQ team, the trip was an excellent opportunity to strengthen relationships, make new industry connections, and showcase some of the latest technology solutions designed to improve fisheries research and field data collection workflows.
Connecting with the Fisheries Community
One of the most valuable aspects of both conferences was the opportunity to attend presentations and technical sessions covering current challenges and innovations in fisheries science and aquatic conservation.
From fish passage improvements and habitat restoration to data collection efficiencies and monitoring technologies, the events highlighted the growing need for reliable, efficient, and field ready tools that can help researchers collect better data while improving operational workflows.
Jackson and Armando were able to engage directly with fisheries professionals working in:
• Salmonid restoration
• Fish passage engineering
• Hatchery operations
• PIT tag monitoring
• Aquatic research
• Environmental consulting
• Native fish conservation
• Population monitoring programs
The conversations provided valuable insight into emerging industry needs and ongoing field challenges across fisheries programs throughout the United States and internationally.
Showcasing Voda IQ Technology
Throughout the conferences, the Voda IQ team demonstrated several of the company’s latest technologies, including the company’s innovative preloaded tagging system, the Veloce Measuring Board, and the VodaTrak platform.
The response from attendees was extremely positive, particularly from organizations looking to:
• Increase tagging efficiency
• Reduce fish handling time
• Improve fish health outcomes
• Streamline field data collection
• Reduce manual data entry
• Improve workflow consistency between crews
Growing Interest in the Preloaded Tagging System
One of the highlights of the conferences was demonstrating Voda IQ’s preloaded tagging system, which continues to generate significant interest throughout the fisheries and aquaculture industries.
The system allows users to work with a new sharp needle for every application, helping improve efficiency while reducing handling concerns and improving overall fish care during tagging operations.
Many attendees were especially interested in how the system can:
• Speed up large tagging projects
• Reduce operator fatigue
• Improve consistency between tagging crews
• Improve biosecurity practices
• Reduce the risk of dull needle reuse
The compact and field friendly design also drew attention from hatchery programs and field crews managing high volume tagging operations.
Modernizing Field Data Collection
In addition to the preloaded system, the Veloce Measuring Board and VodaTrak software platform received strong interest from conference attendees looking for better ways to collect and manage biological data in the field.
The ability to instantly record fish lengths while integrating peripherals such as:
• RFID readers
• 2D barcode scanners
• Digital scales
• Barcode readers
• Bluetooth devices
makes the platform highly flexible for a wide range of fisheries and environmental monitoring applications.
Attendees were particularly interested in the ability to instantly export data into Excel compatible formats, reducing the amount of time crews spend manually entering or cleaning up field notes after long sampling days.
Building Relationships Across the Industry
For Voda IQ, conferences like these are about far more than simply displaying products. They are opportunities to collaborate with researchers, hear directly from field crews, and better understand the evolving needs of fisheries professionals worldwide.
The team returned from California energized by the conversations, new partnerships, and opportunities to continue supporting fisheries conservation and aquatic research efforts with innovative RFID and data collection technologies.
As fisheries programs continue to seek faster, more accurate, and more efficient field solutions, Voda IQ remains committed to developing practical tools designed by people who understand the realities of fieldwork.
Looking Ahead
The Voda IQ team would like to thank everyone who stopped by to visit, ask questions, share project ideas, and discuss future opportunities during both conferences.
The company looks forward to continuing conversations with fisheries agencies, researchers, hatcheries, tribes, universities, and conservation organizations throughout the year.
